Bach-Kantaten N°50

With its 50th release, the CD edition of all Bach cantatas launched by our foundation in 2011 has reached a true milestone. This particularly lavish compilation brings together three of Bach’s most sonorous and powerful vocal works: the secular dramma per musica “Zerreißet, zersprenget, zertrümmert die Gruft” (BWV 205), the resounding Michaelmas cantata “Es erhub sich ein Streit” (BWV 19), and the early wedding cantata “Der Herr denket an uns” (BWV 196). The CD booklet and the in-depth interview with Rudolf Lutz offer expert insight into the distinctive qualities that have evolved over time in the St. Gallen concert series and place its contributions within the broader development of historical performance practice in recent decades.
