Description
J. S. Bach already printed the collection with the third part of his monumental “Clavierübung” in 1739 as a tribute to the introduction of the Reformation in Leipzig (1539). The double CD emphasises the relationship between song substance and organ interpretation and presents the “smaller” manualiter preludes as an independent cycle, combined with hymn verses. This version, supplemented with Bach’s chorale movements, was recorded in the Protestant church of Stein and in the Catholic church of Gams. It goes back to the memorable concert by the award-winning organist Johannes Lang (District Cantor at the Friedenskirche in Potsdam-Sanssouci) and the vocal quartet of the J. S. Bach Foundation (Lia Andres, soprano; Antonia Frey, alto; Raphael Höhn, tenor; Philippe A. Rayot, bass) as part of the Appenzell Bach Festival 2016 in Gais. Available on all common download/streaming platforms.
